A two-volume study of the ‘Evangelistria' cemetery in Thessaloniki, the oldest Orthodox cemetery still in use in the city. The first part gives the historical background to the founding of the cemetery, details from registers and archive catalogues and documents of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki and the ‘Charitable Brotherhood'. The first volume concludes with a chapter on the running of the cemetery in former times and in the present day.

This publication represents an important contribution to studies of the city of Thessaloniki.
